Sweden offers something very different from the traditional ski resorts in the Alps and the USA. It is a land of extreme beauty and blessed with guaranteed snow owing to it's proximity to the Arctic Circle. Another factor to consider is that while the mountains are not as high or as steep as some of those in the Alps, the snowline is extremely low meaning that resorts such as Riksgränsen and Åre provide superb long runs right into the resort. The best time to visit for skiing is from late February due to the winter months giving practically no daylight. On the plus side of going in the winter months however, its the best time to see the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis). From mid April, in the spring snow, its possible to ski under the Midnight sun in the northerly resorts. Sweden is a very welcoming nation, has great food (plenty of fish and game) and they certainly know how to have a good time both on and off the slopes.
